work for Cingular

Well.  I’m not sure what happened to me today.  I settled in to watch Oprah on Ellen at 3:00, all nice and toasty under 2 blankets (even though it was in the 50s again today).  The next thing I know, I’m thinking that I totally missed ALL of the Thursday night shows!  AAARRRRGGGGG!  Luckily, it was a dream nightmare daymare not true.  I woke up, saw Grey’s Anatomy was already on, and freaked.  But it turns out they re-ran last week’s episode, so the only thing I really missed was the first 15 minutes of Survivor.  I can handle that.  I still don’t know how I managed to take over a 4 hour nap tho.  Guess who won’t be able to sleep tonight!

Up until that point, I had a fairly productive day, for me anyway.  A few days ago, I bought some organizing trays and racks so I could clean and organize one of the kitchen cupboards.  Today was the first chance I had to do it.  I threw away 2 trash sacks full of old spices, cake decorating stuff, etc.  I’m pretty sure I’ve had some of those spices since 1981.  They got pushed to the back of the 3rd shelf (which I can not reach without a damn ladder)  By the time I sorted through everything I kept, I came to the conclusion that I won’t need to buy any spices for the next 3 years.

And now I give you the most organized thing in my house:

I can’t believe I didn’t take a “before” picture, but then again, I’d probably be too embarrassed to put it up here anyway.  Those two containers on the right side of the 2nd shelf hold all of my seasoning packets.  I’ve got enough sloppy joe, burrito, taco, chili, and meat loaf seasoning to last till summer.  The problem is I never checked to see if I needed those kinds of things before I went to the store.  Mainly cuz it was such a pain to check.  If I was thinking about fixing one of those things, I’d just pick up one or two while I was shopping.  Or if they were on sale, I’d stock up.  Now that they’re so nice and organized, it won’t be a problem to check first.  Maybe.

While in the basement this morning, I heard dripping, and found that there was a leak coming from the bathroom, and the dripping water was landing right on a stack of clean clothes I’d left on top of the dryer.  Why oh why must I be so lazy and not put my clean clothes away?  Anyway, when I went to investigate the source, I found that water was leaking out of the toilet tank where the handle is.  Since I don’t really want to know where the valve to turn the water off is (and I have a hard time seeing behind the toilet, since it’s in a corner) I just put an old hair spray can under the float to stop the water from running.  I was rather proud of myself.  Yeah, I’m pathetic.  Anyway, after Greg ate dinner, he looked at it, and wound up having to replace everything inside the tank.  Lucky we had all that stuff on hand.  Hmm, I wonder WHY we had everything on hand?  I’m just glad we did, cuz you know, I’d hate to be without a working bathroom for more than a couple of hours.

I got a call from my mother-in-law tonight – she got a new cell phone today – it’s different from her old one, and she has no clue how to use it.  Great.  Here we go again.  Maybe I should go to work for Cingular.

Survivor

I finally saw Survivor -- the first time this season. We are pulling for the underdog team. But, I have to tell you Thank God for DVR----I replayed the reward challenge time and time again. The part where that asian chick wiped out on the slick stuff then tried to "swim" but never got anywhere....oh man that was funny! Oh, and "Boo" . . . homeboy is HAWT!

Good Job, Barbie!

Your cabinet looks great. Have you been reading KT's website? She has done a lot of cleaning out/organizing and it's very inspiring to see what she's done. I recently saw an advertisement from the McCormick Spice Company. They showed one of their seasonings in a red & white metal rectangular-shaped can. It said in the ad if you had one of these spices in your cabinet, it was at least 15 years old!!! OMG! I knew mine were old but I had no idea that much time had passed since I had bought some of them. Needless to say, I started pitching them. The only exception to this rule is their black pepper. They still sell it in the r&w metal cans. Anyway, your cabinet looks amazing and I know how satisfying that must be to look in there and be able to find what you need in a second. Good job and now what are you going to tackle next? -jillybean
